My Top 5: Favourite scary things

Everyone has their favourite things in life, from food to movies to books to what they like doing on weekends, here though i have decided to compile a list of MY 5 favourite scary things, not so much scary but they are the things that i either started out my horror obession or is something i am obsessed with today !!

maybe it will explain alot about me and who i am !!! and where my obsession for scary movies anything horror and realllllly bad slasher movies comes from !!!! so here it is people my top 5 favourite scarrrrrrry things !!! just in time for halloween !

#5 - Hocus pocus - The Craft (an everhting in between and after!!)

Before my horror movie, slasher film, scary watching obession, i had an obsession with these two movies !!! i reckon hocus pocus was one of my first forays into the world of supernatural as such, and the start of my love for witchy like movies !!! then there's the craft (which i will have to rewatch and review for all soon) this movie is actually very near and dear to me because it was the movie in the 90s the me my older sister and two older cousins used to watch together religiously !! we'd even get the point of acting out scenes together especially trying to do the whole 'light as a feather stiff as a board' moment in the movie where they lift one of the girls off the ground with just two fingers !!

Bette mildlers performace as one of the witches is so memorable in Hocus Pocus and Neve campbell as one of the witches in The Craft has always been somewhat memorable to me (funnily enough upon investiagtion The craft came out in July of 1996 and Scream came out in December of 1996, so was a good year for Neve Campbell) they're both just such enjoyable movies and hold sentimental value and memories for me, and is probably one of the earliest memories of my obsession with anything to do with the supernatural which then extended out into my obession with scarrrrry movies !!!

#4 R.L Stine/Point Horror Fiction

Say hello to my second gateway drug to the world that is horror/slasher/scary !! Starting out with R.L Stines Goosebump books when i was a just a wee tacker !! but too this day i still read R,L Stines teenage fiction novels that are basically your average everyday stalk an slash in a book, thats probably why i love stalk n slash movies so much !! also the point Horror fiction with authours such as Richie Tankersley Cusick and Diane Hoh, they are all a bunch of well written teenage fiction scary books.

I mean JUST LOOK ! at some of those titles, Lights out ( hello gateway to friday the 13th) April Fools (Hello Gateway to april fools day) The babysitter (Hello gateway to When a Stranger calls) i could go on and on and on for DAYS!! about these books, the ones pictured are amoung my favourites !! Blindfold by Diane Hoh is one of my NUMBER ONE favourite books !! i love that damn lil booky wook !! its everything that was and i wish still was 80's slash n stalk all in one of my favourite things of all time A BOOK!!

i suppose it would help many to know (or not) that i am an obsessive reader as well so i love to devour book after book after book, so this was seriously my first foray into the world of stalk and slash and i am also proud to say i am the owner of a extensive collection of these books that i love soo much, i am ALWAYS on the hunt for the very rare ones that are hard to find but i don't care if it takes me till i'm 100 one day i HOPE AND PRAY to own each and everyone one of the R.L Stine books and Point Horror fiction !!! which brings us to number 3 !!!

#3 80's Slasher movies

oooooooh the trash, the filth, the fun !!! 80's were such an awesome time for movies, i am obsessed with the 80's i do love everything about it, the bad hair the clothes THE MOVIES!! oh god those movies that came from the 80's they were so wonderful and delicious and slasher movies back then WHERE ACTUALLY SCARY !!!! something that this day and age SADLLLLY lacks alot of, we are too obessed with this whole technology shit that its over taking from great story telling and scary stalk scenes and awesome slayings that where the pivotal moments of any 80's talks and slash movie!!

I mean look at those movie posters ALONE they are soooooo cool, i love the friday the 13th movie poster and the april fools day one as well !! there is just so much to love about these movies, the didn't have the CGI and computer graphics like we do this day and age, thou they DID have it, it wasn't ever to the extent that we have today, and i think thats what makes these movies so fanfriggintastic, they couldn't just rely on a computer to make special graphics !!! they had to use their smarts and brains and they used the whole 'stalk' method to extremes back then better then anyone ever has today !! ohh i just loveeeeee them !! i love anything 80's really

# 2 - Buffy The Vampire Slayer/Angel

Ah the 90's they tried so hard with movies, and they did pretty darn good with the Scream Franchise and i Know what you did last summer, but the thing of the 90's that i remember sooooooooo much and still watch religiously to this day is Buffy, just that name sends a happy tingle through my body and a sigh of contentment from my lips ! i'm pretty sure everyone from my generation up wards and possibly even a few of the newer generation have seen buffy !!, with all these shows coming out today with vampires and demons and werewolves its pretty damn hard to beat buffy !

Sarah Michelle Gellar as Buffy LOVE IT, David Boreanz as Angel LOVE IT, i just damn well love everything about this show and the spin off it created of angel, not only did buffy battle demons and vampires and monsters but she was dealing with real life issues at the same time of being a teenage and vampyr slayer !! it wasn't hard for her and i loved seeing that they didn't make it easy for her just because she was a super hero, the interaction between buffy and angel in the first 3 episodes, and then how they grew apart and also together when angel left, there is SO MUCH about this show to love, and again was another gateway for my obsession i have with scary things !!!!

So thus brings us to number one on my list, and probably my number one thing at the moment (tied with my scary movie obsession) on my list of everything in Life !!!

#1 - Supernatural

What can i say really, i mean for starters LOOK AT THOSE BOYS !!! (Jenson NEEDS to call me !!!) but honestly its not all about two hots boys on my screen, there IS a real good story behind supernatural (thou over time has gotten a lil bad) season one alone is a stand out introducing us to two brothers, one who had gotten out of the 'family' business to go to collage and another (the eldest) who stayed in the 'family' business when daddy goes missing older brother Dean tracks down younger brother Sam to help him find daddy, thus thrusting Sam back into the life he ran away from and forcing them onto a journey that has spanned 8 years !!!, with the 8 season just airing on tv NOW !!

There is so much to love about this tv series, there's vampire and werewolves and ghosts and every damn other thing you ever dreamed was under your bed but couldn't believe was really there, they fight them off they save people, there's demon possesion and funny one liners between the boys or the demons they're fighting, there has to be the best VILLIAN EVERY CREATED in a tv series or movie everrrrrrr in demon turned king of Hell Crowely (i love me that demon) he's funny and witty and while the boys outwit him time and time again he literally COMES BACK FROM THE DEAD !!! there's story lines about angels as well come the fourth season lots of biblical stuff that sometimes made me tune out cause i've never really followed that stuff but after a few episodes i'd come to relalize that it DID interest me so paid more attention. really all i CAN say is that I JUST LOVE SUPERNATURAL !!! its the best of all the supernatural tv shows on tv at the moment (true blood is a good second, and vampire diaries a nice 3rd) there really is something for EVERYONE on this show, i recommend a watch of the episode yellow fever, hilrious to see a tough hunter get scared of a cat in a locker (its like all those silly jump scares from slasher films)

So there you have it, its not just movies that are influental, theres the books and the tv shows too !!! combine them all together and its a jumble of fun really never a dull moment for me i always have something to do or something to watch !!! so check out some of the stuff mentioned if you haven't seen or read them, i honestly think everyone should experiance some R,L Stine point horror fiction in their lives, and you DEFINATLY ABSOLUTLY WITHOUT QUESTION need to experiance some Supernatural Sam and Dean in your life, cause if you haven't we can no longer be friends !!!

Go forth young jedi's and immerce yourself in what is the world of SCARYYY (and fun)

Movie Review - The Entity (1982)

The Entity - 1982

Carla Moran: All right. All right, bastard. I've finished running. So do what you want. Take your time - buddy. Take your time. Really, I'm thankful for the, uh... rest. I'm so... tired of being scared. So it's all right, it really is, it's all right. You can, uh, do anything you want to me, you can, uh, torture me, kill me, anything. But you can't have me. You cannot touch me.
[pause]
Carla Moran: That's mine.

I have to ask as i start this review, but what is it about scary movies of the 80s !! they are brilliantly more scary then anything i have ever seen since the year 2000 hit, it was like technology gave people a liscenes to make movies choke full of gory blood spilling scenes and the ever constant 'fake' jump scares that they forget the REAL scares, not like in the 80s, those ever present stalking scenes done so well it DOES leave you scared.

Thus brings me to this film, the entity, the first 3rd of the movie does scare me, it had me shivering and wanting to cower under the blankets with my ralph the dog (the toy ive had since i was like 6 or 7) and a flashlight, it had me for a few nights afterwards having to turn on the lights when i went to the toilet instead of my usual falling out of bed and tripping on things in the dark !, i think the ESSENCES (pun intended hehe) of this movie boils down to the story line of a mother of 3 Carla Moran is being haunted by and subsequently raped repeatedly by some unseen entity.

I think everyone who has ever seen and reviewed this movie has said it, and i will say it again, hats off to Barbera Hershey for her portrayl of Carla Moran, she does such a tremendous job with this role, and its what makes this movie so damn scary, from the first scenes of Carla first rape where she's thrown onto the bed and a pillow is shoved over her head, her eldest son comes running in and carla is screaming that there's someone in the room still, but upon looking around her son finds no one or any sign that anyone was ever there, and from that moment it esculates into some very intense creepy moments in the film, the bathroom rape where the doors swing shut and she can't get out, to the point where she finds herself so sexually stimulated as she had been asleep when it occured, you see the pure fear in her eyes at that point, and you FEEL it too as you watch her.

She is a strong woman, but whats happening to her would break ANYONE even the STRONGEST woman on the planet and even in NORMAL circumstances rape is a horrible thing, but under these circumstances its terrifying even more because she cannot explain it, which we experiances when she goes to see a doctor and he tries to come up with all manners of ways to explain whats happened to her, but she shows him CLEAR bruises all over her body that are physically IMPOSSIBLE for her to have done to herself, at one point the doctor even goes to far as to accuse her son of the rapes just to be able to come up with some plausable explination.

at this point we seem the termoile going on inside of Calra she starts to wander herself if she's really going crazy and as the audiance i started to wander it too, but at the height of her 'am i or aren't i' we get escualting scenes of attack from the Entity and this is where it starts to creep me out, especially for a movie made in the early 80's there is some nudity in which we see someone touching or i should say groping at Carla naked breast, but there is NO ONE else in the room but her and yet you can clearly see someone it doing something to her, that scene had me shivering so much, it had me BELIEVING it was real and she wasn't just going crazy.

Though slowly towards the end of the movie i find it loses a bit of steam, especially with the introduction of paranormal investigators at a university who Carla happens to bump into at a book store, she tells them her story and they dont know whether to believe her or not at first until they witness something they cant deny as seen in the picture above, they take photos and take them back to their professor i guess she is i didnt really know who she was compared to who they were, but basically they show her the pictures and she gives them the go ahead to investigate more.

by this point Carla has stopped going to her doctor, and he rocks up at her house to check on her, she pretty much blows him off putting all her trust into these paranormal investigators and this is where the movie peters off for me a bit, the creepiness of her being alone and being attacked gives way to scenes of the blue sparks appearing, you can see the cracks in Carla sanity are starting to show and the doctor honestly thinks she delusional and everyone around her is helping to fed her delusions thus keeping it alive !

basically by this point we get some big experimental ending in the university where the paranormal invesitgators are from, and then we get a shot of Carla packing up her car and moving away, which then right at the end the movie proceeds to tell us that it was all based and actual events, that happened to some lady in like 1974, and that to this day (or eg 1982 not now) the events are still accuring thou these accurances have slowly decreased in frequency over time.

I do honestly have to say that the start of this movie right up till we get the 'paranormal investigators' is fairly creepy, you cannot deny the amazing job that has been done on this movie, especially the acting of Barbera Hershey, the whole plot between Carla and the Doctor holds up well i think to, it gets you to look it from the point of view of a stranger/someone else that maybe it is all in her head, that her years growing up thinking sex was wrong, and a number of other numerous 'sexual' encounters throughout her life all lend to this point, to making up delusions in her head.

the rape scenes within this movie are somewhat vicious at times, and decidedly scary i think for any woman watching this its more confronting then watching any other normal ghost story out there, it's something we live with a fear of throughout our lives and especially in todays culture its so much more prominet which i think is why this movie stands the test of time and is scary in those moments to this day.

I recommend a watch of this movie, if only just to see how well done it is, especially for its time. between the acting and pacing and the scares it really does give ya a little bit of hebbie jebbies, but i do think it should also come with a warning, it can be a very conforting movie, as much as it is scary it also have that very real element of society, the questions we all have about our own sanity is one thing, but how do you know for sure your bat shit crazy, or your really being raped by a unseen entity !
